ACLU-D.C. Names Maxine Davis as New Organizing Director
Experienced Organizer Will Foster Partnerships to Advance Civil Liberties in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. —The American Civil Liberties Union of the District of Columbia announced that Maxine Davis has been named the new Organizing Director, joining a team of more than 20 staff working to protect and enhance civil liberties and civil rights in the nation's capital.
Davis is a native Washingtonian who most recently served as a Summer Fellowship Program Coordinator with Harriet’s Wildest Dreams, a Black-led community defense hub centering Black lives most at risk for state-sanctioned violence. Beforehand, Davis served as Lead Field Organizer for the DC Working Families Party, and as Campaign Manager for Rev. Wendy for Congress. Prior to those positions, Davis provided instruction on the role of civil liberties and civil rights in our democracy as a Program Instructor at the ACLU Summer Institute with the Close-Up Foundation.
“I’m thrilled to join the team at ACLU-D.C. and look forward to advancing our relationships with the communities we serve,” said Davis. “As much as I love the District, there are many ways in which we are falling short of providing full and equal rights for everyone. I look forward to listening to our communities and working together to create the lasting change we need on issues ranging from access to voting, education, housing, public health and safety, and more.”
“Maxine is joining our organization at a critical time to ensure we work together to call out injustices, hold those in power accountable, and rebuild the institutions of the District so that everyone in D.C. is living with equal rights,” said Monica Hopkins, Executive Director of ACLU-D.C. “We are thrilled for Maxine to take our organizing to the next level."
