Each year one third, or eight seats, of the Board of Directors of the ACLU-DC are selected to serve three-year terms and are responsible for governance and fiscal stability, as well as attendance at six meetings each year. There are two ways to become a candidate for Board nomination.
1: Submit candidacy to the Nominations Committee
Each year, between February and May, the Board Nominations Committee carefully considers the applications of potential board members to join the people who govern and direct the D.C. affiliate of the ACLU. If you would like to be considered for board nomination by the Board Nominations Committee, you must be a member in good standing and submit a brief statement of interest along with a nomination form. The Nominations Committee work is done on a rolling basis, but a slate is put forward in June of every year.
To submit candidacy to the Nominations Committee, complete the form below. Completing the form does not guarantee a place on the ballot.
2: Petition for Candidacy
Nominations may also be submitted by petition. Petitioners may use their own form. Nominee and petition signers must be members in good standing as of May 21, 2022.
Nomination petitions must include:
- Name and address of nominee
- Statement of interest (no more than 300 words)
- Signed statement of willingness to serve if elected
- Names and signatures of 25 current ACLU-DC members
- Headshot or small photo (2x3” at 300 dpi)
Petitions must be emailed to [email protected] and are due July 15, 2022.
