Sobin v. Sobin

We represented Dennis Sobin in this appeal filed in August 2010, which challenged the constitutionality of a provision in a civil protective order, obtained by his son, that required him to stay 100 feet away from the John A. Wilson Building— D.C.’s City Hall—because his son’s office was inside. We argued that a protective order must be narrowly tailored to avoid infringing unnecessarily on a person’s ability to exercise his rights as a citizen, a standard this order flunked. But the stay-away order expired while the appeal was pending and the court of appeals dismissed the case as moot.
