Join us for the ACLU-D.C. 2024 Annual Membership Meeting on Monday, September 16, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the National Press Club at 529 14th St NW, 13th Floor, Washington, DC 20045. In celebration of Constitution Day, this public event underscores our commitment to advancing civil liberties and civil rights in D.C. With democracy under attack, we need everyone working together to protect our fundamental rights.
The evening will feature a discussion moderated by Tracee Wilkins, Investigative Reporter with NBC 4, talking about a soon-to-be-released report examining stop-and-frisk practices by the D.C. Police, which indicates significant racial disparities in policing practices. Joining her will be:
- Scarlett Aldebot, Policy Advocacy Director at ACLU-D.C.
- Scott Michelman, Legal Director at ACLU-D.C.
- Prof. Paul Butler from Georgetown University Law Center
- Prof. Vida Johnson from Georgetown University Law Center
They will assess current stop-and-frisk practices in D.C. and their impact on Black and Brown communities and propose solutions for achieving more comprehensive public safety in the District.
We will provide updates on our organization’s accomplishments and introduce our 2024 slate of ACLU-D.C. Board Members. We invite all ACLU-D.C. members, supporters, and the public to attend and learn how you can contribute to building a more just and free D.C. Light refreshments will be provided.
If you’re not yet an ACLU-D.C. member, become one today.
