Each year one third, or eight seats, of the Board of Directors of the ACLU-DC are elected by ACLU-DC members. Board members serve three-year terms and are responsible for governance and fiscal stability, as well as attendance at six meetings each year. There are two ways to become a candidate for Board nomination.

1: Submit candidacy to the Nominating Committee

Each year the Board Nominating Committee carefully considers the applications of potential board members to join the people who govern and direct the D.C. affiliate of the ACLU. If you would like to be considered for board nomination by the Board Nominating Committee, you must be a member in good standing and submit a brief statement of interest along with a nomination form. The Nominating Committee work is done on a rolling basis, but a slate is put forward in June of every year

Submit a nomination form.

2: Petition for Candidacy

Nominations may also be submitted by petition. The petitioner must be a member in good standing. Nomination petitions must include the name, address and a statement of interest from the nominee. Petitions must be signed by the nominee expressing their willingness to serve if elected and be signed by twenty-five (25) current ACLU-DC members. Petitioners may use their own form.

Submit a petition via email to [email protected] by the July 12, 2024 deadline.
